Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions, if you need to know anything else, please don't hesitate to get in touch through our contact page.

Our field is laid out in rows of flowers, many different varieties and many different colours, you will be free to pick from wherever you are drawn to, brightly coloured dahlias, softly floating scabious, sunflowers, wafting cosmos, to name but a few.

Different flowers come into season at different times and to keep the flower field going throughout the summer, new plants are being slotted in all the time. If you had something particular in mind, have a look at our weekly Facebook post 'What's on the Plot'  which will give the changing and up to date information about what is available to pick each week.

Fresh flowers are best picked in the morning before the heat of the day.

For pre-booked appointments, there are three sessions on each picking day; 9am-11am, 10am-12pm and 11am - 1pm. Exclusive appointments can be arranged at other times for PYO Brides, groups and gatherings. Workshops can be arranged to tie on with picking..

Alternatively you can pop in to the farm shop on Friday or Saturday and if we have space, we'll book you in straightaway.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page for short notice announcements about extra picking days in the summer holidays.
As we are a working farm, the flower plot is a field where there is uneven ground and no shelter, so it is important that you bring sensible footwear, sun hats and suncream, or maybe an umbrella. It's a good idea to check the weather forecast before you set off.

We will provide you with a picking bucket (containing water) and snips. You are welcome to bring your own bucket to transfer your flowers into before you travel home. We do not provide buckets to takeaway, your flowers will be wrapped just before you leave if you choose not to transport them in water yourself.
Your ticket is for you and one regular bucket of flowers (£25), or a large bucket (£50) if that's what you choose. You can purchase a ticket for one other person (adult or child) to pick with you for £5.

Family tickets (for two adults and up to two children) can be purchased for Saturday and event picking are charged separately.

Wedding and event parties requiring exclusive booking will be quoted individually although based on a two hour picking session for up to six people gathering five large buckets of flowers.
You will have the option on the day to upgrade to a large bucket. You can also purchase additional buckets on the field.

We often have a selection of other flowers and foliage that have been picked elsewhere on the farm for purchase. If you are picking for a wedding, we will offer to supply buckets of foliage to accompany your flowers, these can be pre-ordered ready for collection on the day of your picking session.

You are welcome to bring a bucket of your own to transfer your flowers into if you wish to take them home in water. If you do not have a bucket we will hold your flowers for you in water until you are ready to leave and then wrap them in paper to travel home.
If the weather is wet, the flowers can still be picked, you may choose to bring a waterproof or an umbrella. Unfortunately, tickets cannot be refunded.
Ice cream, cold drinks and snacks can be purchased in our farm shop. If you have purchased items from our farm shop, you are welcome to rest in our sheltered seating area. Unfortunately we do not have facilities for picnics. A toilet and hand wash are available.
We have made special arrangements for customers wishing to pick flowers for weddings and celebrations. Please contact Meg directly by clicking here to make an appointment for this. She will be on hand to advise you and make sure that your wedding flowers remain in tip-top condition.

Honesty is the best policy - if you are in the flower business, you will appreciate that wholesale flowers are an important part of what we do at Roots.

You are welcome to pick your own flowers, but please remember that the PYO should be fun for everyone. If you are cutting mixed varieties of flowers, this will work well. If you need just one variety (just dahlias, sunflowers, sweet peas for example) we would rather that you asked us about your wholesale requirement, then we will be able to help make sure you get the best flowers for the job you are supplying.

A regular PYO bucket at Roots will hold 30-40 stems if you pick a few different varieties of flowers. For example 3 sunflowers, 10 cornflowers, 5 cosmos, 10 zinnia, 3 malope, 3 ammi, 5 gypsophila. This makes a balanced display of larger and smaller flowers, what we call 'focals & fillers'.

Large PYO buckets hold 60-80 stems.
