A Good Read in 2024

Food for Life – Tim Spector

I’m sure we’ve mentioned this before, but if you are interested in some home truths about the food as a nation we have come to consume and why we might want to do something about it – it’s not too late. Will and I have picked up some helpful and interesting tips on how to look more careful at food we think is ‘natural’ and we’ve been reminded of what is important in our diet and why. With New Year’s resolutions in mind, Tim Spector’s approach to diet may well be worth considering.

French Odyssey – Rick Stein

Published in 2005, this is a book I lost a while ago and have re-found just recently which is an absolute delight because I have been re-united with some of my favourite recipes for entertaining. Rick Stein isn’t often associated with desserts, but I LOVE most of the dessert recipes in this book. Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée, Cherry Pithiviers, Grilled Peaches, Baled Lemon Cheesecake, Walnut Tart and my absolute fav Hazelnut and Chocolate Dacquoise … need I say any more!

The Flower Hunter – Lucy Hunter

An absolutely beautiful collection of some of Lucy Hunters floristry work from her studio to meeting growers, inspiration and technique. This is just how we grow and like to display flowers, seasonally, gently and generously. A highly recommended read if you enjoy bringing a little of your garden into your home.

The Essential Tree Selection – Arit Anderson & Henrik Sjöman

I have had the pleasure of meeting Arit Anderson on several occasion in my work with Flowers from the Farm and have really been impressed with her knowledge, passion and enthusiasm. This book is extremely detailed, well researched and brilliantly presented for those who may not have an in-depth horticultural knowledge, but here can easily access crucial information when choosing trees to plant in a landscape whether large or small.
